Welcome to one of nature's masterpieces, Utah's Mount Nebo National Scenic Byway. This audio driving tour takes you winding 38 miles through the southern end of the Wasatch Mountains. On this tour, you will discover how the Byway provides access to some of Utah's most majestic lands!
The tour can be enjoyed in either direction--coming from Payson City to the north or Nephi City to the south. These towns are essential features of the Byway as they mark the gateways of access to the majestic mountain lands.
As the route follows US Route 132, you will pass Elk Ridge, Twin Knolls, and Devil's Kitchen.
The Byway is named after its domineering peak, Mount Nebo, in the Uinta National Forest. At 11,928 feet, Mount Nebo marks the highest point in the Wasatch Mountains. Early Mormon pioneers named Mount Nebo after Mount Nebo in Palestine. The name Nebo means "sentinel to God".
As you explore the Nebo Loop Road with this audio tour, you will learn many more stories about the region through which you are traveling. You will hear historical stories about Wasatch Mountain wildlife and life as a homesteader or Native American. You will also learn about this region in the present-day--tales about the towns that provide people the ability to establish a community in the valley with easy access to all that a mountain environment has to offer.
Tour Sponsors This tour is sponsored by Payson City, Nephi City, Utah County, Juab County, and the National Forest Service. It is also made possible with help from the Juab County Travel Council.
